Tabloid Cover
Face of Satan seen over US Capitol!
Bat Child
I chose this cover because my parents used to subscribe to Weekly World News, and this was always our favorite story. One year for Halloween, my mom made us all Bat Boy masks. This cover is interesting because its entire focus is on one story.

Kitty Killer
Garden of Eden Found
When I saw this I instantly laughed out loud, I believe that this is a strong tabloid because the ridiculously funny displays and strong use of san serif type
Vampire Cat
Der Fuhrer in einem Rock?!!
I love this one because it is a pretty obvious shop job but it still looks plausible. Then there is the bold font on a white background, it screams noteworthy news and the exclamation point, importance! Haha, and yes Rock is german for skirt/dress.
Jesus Flip Flop Found
I chose this image because it is...beyond ridiculous. I admire the use of photoshop in a semi-creative manner. This story in particular captures the ENTIRE cover...in other words, nothing is bigger than Jesus.

Garden of the Gods
This particular poster caught my attention because of its composition and the great use of colors. Each color is used to designate only the feature it is used for. The orange for the jutting rock structures, yellow for the sky and clouds suspended in it and then a cool green used for the trees. As if to make it seem like the rocky outcroppings are stranded in the middle of some unorthodox tree ocean. Plus the sheer detail within the picture, almost every tree is individually defined, every crevice and crack can be seen on the rock faces and then the billowy light clouds.
Devils Tower
The Zion National Park poster brought my attention because of the use of color, the shades and tints and how it makes the viewer see different perspectives through the use of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines to show the perspective of the poster. the use of color was able to give it a warm, yet color tone and it was able to balance the the composition.
Acadia National Pork...mmmmm
I feel as this composition was well thought out from the color scheme to the placement of the elements and overall balance within the picture
Crater Lake, Oregon
I found this poster to be the most appealing because it found a way to make land, water and sky all equally appealing without a specific focus on one natural landscape. The colors are eye-popping and the mustard yellow provides draws the eye without being too overbearing.
Hawaii National Park
Crater Lake National Park
Saguaro National Monument poster
This poster jumped out at me for many different reasons. First of all, the sky is so big and reminds me of home. I like how the people on horseback put into perspective how big the cactus are. The mountains in the background really complete the piece, and the colors are used effectively. The placement of the objects also works well. I like the fact that nothing is put in the exact center of the canvas.
Sequoia
This poster caught my eye because of its warmth and contrast. It has a relaxing mood, and it has a distinct foreground, middleground and background. I like how the tree in the foreground kind of frames the poster, and the vertical and horizontal images allow your eye to travel around the composition, giving it nice visual movement.
Yellowstone National Park- Geyser
First off, I like this poster's composition, it shows movement and really draws a viewer in with its sweeping lines. I posted two versions of it which show how much color impacts and changes an image, the poster on the left has an airy feel to it while the one on the left has contrasting colors in it which add a lot of drama to it.

Olympics Pictogram
Cat Pictogram
Monday, August 30, 2010
I like this everyday, highways and somewhat nature pictograms. They are very simple and clear.
The two olympic pictograms are bold with black background and white figures along with little details, such as arms, legs and belly. You can see different lines to shape bodies. The movements are great and tells you what kind of sports displayed.Home Appliances
What initially drew me to this particular pictogram set is how comprehensive it is. The designer, Sergiy Timashov, has many sets all depicting items one could find in any (modern) home. Every item is easily identifiable and completely relatable. There is no undo detail cluttering the images, only enough is used to show what it is exactly that we are looking at.
*PICTOGRAMS*
I found all of these pictograms on Flickr.com. I just typed "Pictogram" in the search bar.
The first one of the candies really caught my eye because I feel like the subject matter is unique. All of the images have a consistent look. I like the contrast of the thick, white lines against the black background.
This pictogram is probably my favorite as far as sports go. Its obvious what each one is trying to portray, and each human figure looks the same.
These wine glasses captured my attention because I found it creative to portray how many different wine glasses there are. They serve the same purpose but look different. I love the way each has white spots to represent a glare on the glass. I also like how the top circle of each one is colored white as well. Another aspect of the consistency is how each glass is tilted at the exact same angle. That's something I will consider with this project.
Pictogram Faces
Pictogram System
I like this pictogram system because there is a lot of movement in each pictograph. Each one also has an interesting composition; not just a simple image in the center of the frame. There is some detail, but still very simple.

Pictogram Systems
These are by Anthony Dimitre. I chose them mostly because of their off-beat character and how they are all completely different in terms of topic yet are all very obviously by the same artist. They fit together very well regardless of their varying genres.
These are also by Anthony Dimitre, I thought the bottom two in the set were worth posting since it is similar to what we are working on now. They are very clear and simple.
This set is from iconwerk and I really like how detailed they are while maintaining extreme simplicity. All of them are immediately identifiable.

Everyday Life Pictogram
I like this pictogram because of the lines used to produce the image. I also like the symbols represented within. For the most part, the symbols represent me and who I am as a person, because I love music and play an instrument. I consider myself a master crafter, and I also love to sail as well as nature.
Hieroglyphic Pictograms

Food Groups pictogram
I chose these pictograms because they all demonstrate a simple and interesting way of describing food visually. I like how the background color of the signs help enhance this design in the foreground. Finally, the signs are in a different language, yet it's still simple to understand exactly what kind of food it is.
Office Icons
Laundry Pictograms
These pictograms are used in everyday life..with little regard to their meaning or purpose. They depict the universal language of laundering.
